STUDY TECHNIQUES FOR NPLEX

We will provide our recommended study techniques for NPLEX. However, study techniques are developed over years and our top recommendation is to use what works for you and use what’s worked for you in the past. What we mean by this is that if you are a visual learner, draw diagrams and flowcharts. If you prefer videos to help you learn, then utilize video resources. If you remember things best by using group study, then set-up a group that you work well with.

That being said, we recommended multiple techniques for NPLEX study, which vary by topic. In theory, you should know all the material already having been through a formal education. For this reason, we suggest starting by simply reading through material and making sure you understand it. Understanding something is the best way to remember it for a test. All of the material you read should be review to some degree.

A second NPLEX study technique we recommend is using flashcards for repetition. Flashcards allow for usually a single unit of information to be filed mentally. If you possess flashcards which cover large amounts of information, they can be very complementary to your other study techniques. Flashcards also allow for a different input method for information, which helps improve recall.

The final study technique we strongly recommend for NPLEX exams is mind mapping. Mind mapping involves using a central idea and attaching other words, pictures, or concepts to this central idea. When being tested, mind mapping allows you to recall all of these associations that you’ve made and help you answer the question in front of you. Mind mapping is most applicable to certain topics, especially those that are most amenable to a central idea. These include pathology, pharmacology, botanical medicine, homeopathy, and nutrition.
